An 18th century Long gun from North Africa, Algeria. These guns of typically very long form, can sometimes be beautifully decorated with silver work as with this example. Fretted and pierced silver decoration for the length of the gun, large silver-gilt barrel bands cappucines showing a large star to each. The large flintlock mechanism decorated with intricately chiselled silver and brass panels. The barrel of damascus twist steel, complete with its original ramrod housed beneath with a long engraved silver forepart. Some areas of silverwork missing, a rare early example dated beneath the lock to 1190 hijri 1776 C.E.   middle east, north african
