Afghan or Persian ‘Khyber’ sword with silver mounts

Fine  quality 19th century Afghan or Southern Persian sword ‘Khyber Knife’.  A better than average example, this sword is fully mounted with silver, the black hide scabbard with silver locket, hanging band and chape nicely chiselled with designs. The sword hilt with grips of deeply ribbed horn, silver mounts with the top of the hilt showing an attractive arabesque motif. The blade if made from very fine crystalline wootz steel, engraved with some simple geometric features, the spine T-section shape for strength and resilience. In very good condition.  indo persian
