19th Century Chinese Jian sword with good brass-dot inlaid steel blade
An interesting 19th century Chinese sword of ‘Jian ‘ type. The steel blade very good quality steel, long, very well balanced and double edged – of robust diamond cross section and inlaid to both sides with brass dots in a pattern of seven. The blade in good condition with no edge nicks and a nice age patination. The hilt with brass mounts engraved and chiselled with scrolling decoration, a large shaped brass guard sits beneath a swollen ribbed grip of a single piece of solid black horn. The original scabbard surviving having a pierced geometric design allover its surface, and an applied brass chape chiselled ensuite with the hilt. Good condition with some knocks and minor bumps, and a small din/perforation near the pommel. far eastern
