An interesting example of an old helmet having been re-purposed as a well bucket. The helmet mid 16th century, an early type of large peaked Italian Morion with fine etched decoration, seemingly damaged from battle or neglect. Both sides of the brim have been punched with a hole on each side, and some crude repairs to seemingly to fix and holes, There must have been many reuses of old war equipment such as this in the early days, examples of helmets used as cooking pots also exist, and an article discussing helmets used as buckets exists by Mario Scalini ‘from helmets to buckets’ about a group of similar helmets found at a north Italian fortress.* Credit to Konrad for pertinant identification. A rare and most interesting piece.Approximately 30 cms high
