Very Rare Sulawesi shield ‘Kanta’

A very rare shield from Northern Sulawesi/ Celebes.  Long and narrow, the front is angle sharply with two faces, which are decorated with bands of dyed hair, and panels of applied shells, and inlaid bone geometric shapes. the front of the shield is painted black. The reverse showing the wood and rattan ties and incorporating a wooden handle halfway down. A very rare piece probably late 19th century, 104 cms long
