A good old Moro shield known as a ‘Taming’ from Mindanao, South Philippines. A thick heavy wooden example. Painted with some pigments, carved with handles to the rear with a thick bamboo reinforcing edge added. Some minor damages and holes drilled. A virtually identical example is in the Metropolitan Museum Collection from the bequest of George C Stone accession number 36.25.615. The bottom photo shows a Mindanao warrior with very similar painted shield. 19th century
