Heavy Persian shamshir sword with broad wootz blade and inlaid cartouche

Description

The heaviest bladed shamshir of this group of swords, this scimitar displays a bold calligraphic cartouche to one side with brass or gold inlay surrounding it. The hilt of bone or ivory with iron mounts. Together with a scabbard covered with black leather, and two nicely chiselled suspoension mounts, and a steel protective chape. The blade has some areas of dark patination and pitting.  18th/early 19th century.    indo persian
