Persian or Afghan shamshir sword with gold decoration

A most attractive shamshir sword in Persian style, the fittings with twisted silver wire, and elaborate silk woven lanyard strap suggest an Afghan or North Indian origin. The blade broad, curved and with simple chiselled fullering, elaborate series of cartouches including arabic calligraphy, the Persian lion, and applied gold decoration. The other side with a large panel of gold decoration including a cartouche with an early 19th century date. The hilt grips of walrus ivory.  indo persian
