Algerian miquelet musket with striped wood stock and silver mounts

Description

A very good antique long gun miquelet lock Musket from Northern Algeria. The stock made from an exotic wood with distinctive stripes, most clearly seen here on its butt. Mounted with engraved silver throughout, a slab of ivory or bone forming the edge of the butt (chip to one corner). Barrel probably of Italian or European origin, traces of an engraved makers name to the breech area. Multiple ornate cappucines of silver holding the barrel to the stock. The miquelet flintlock mechanism very beautiful with the cock and faceplate applied with deeply chiselled decorated plaques. Dating to the early 19th century. middle east
