Early North African Nimcha sword with German Blade 16th century

Description

An interesting North African sword ‘Nimcha’ or saif. The hilt formed from a single block of quality horn, typically for this type of sword mounted with a knuckleguard and three downturned quillons. The German blade of good quality displaying deeply struck and carved marks including the ‘running wolf’ of Passau. The scabbard of leather, the upper mount chiselled brass with nice designs. The blade dating to the late 16th century, the sword itself may be of this date or slightly later.
