Description

A large example of a plains tribal club from North America, probably Lakota (Sioux). Very large and heavy polished stone head coming to a point on each side with good patina, attached to a long wooden haft and covered with rawhide sinew sewn to one side. Shrinkage has caused slight detachment of the leather to one side below the head revealing the wood below – the club is still strong and intact. There are traces or red pigment to the leather band encirling the stone head. Circa 1880
