Chinese Dao sword with intricate decorated Brass mounts

Description

A nice quality Chinese sword ‘Dao’  dating to the 19th century. The blade of good steel with signs of lamellar construction. The hilt with nicely cast bronze mounts with raised designs of intertwining dragons, the grip with its original fabric cord binding. Very nice antique patina throughout. The scabbard covered with polished black shagreen skin, with an upper locket mounts decorated ensuite to the hilt, and a hanging mount retaining one band, the chape lacking.  far east
