Rare Early 19th century Baker Rifle leather sling for 1800/15 pattern

Description

A very rare original leather sling for a Baker rifle, early 19th century. Leather from this early period rarely survives, and slings are especially rare. This strap is very fragile, but retains its original brass buckle and tongue, the small leather button, and the leather end loop which has had an early cord repair. The inner side of the sling appears to have been painted with red. The measurement from each looped end is approximately 22.5 inches, the measurement from sling swivels on the model 1800/15 infantyr rifle which was modified to take a socket bayonet rather than the side mounted Baker sword more commonly found. A wonderful and very rare survival.
