Fine Caucasian Georgian Qama sword with Niello and engraved Silver

Description

A good quality Kindjal or Qama from Georgia or Northern Turkey dating to the 19th century. The sword fully mounted with engraved and chiselled silver, inlaid with Niello in designs of flowers and scrolling tendrils. The hilt of black horn mounted with niello decorated silver, two raised circular bosses to the front. The scabbard covered with silk fabric (worn) mounted with niello inlaid silver, unusually with a silver panel midway down the sheath front. The blade of heavy strong steel, deeply chiselled with fullers and with a visible band of damascus-twist ‘Turkish Ribbon’ steel along the centre. Retaining its original leather hanging band and red leather backing. 20 inches long overall. middle east, russian
