19th century Caucasian Cossack type Pistol with Silver, Niello and Ivory mounts

Description

A 19th century Caucasian pistol, the stock covered with black leather, typical ball-butt pommel of ivory mounted with a silver lions face beneath. The flintlock again of typical miquelet lock function, the front stamped with a circular makers mark containing arabic characters, the jaws still holding the original flint wrapped in leather. The steel barrel with finely chiselled decoration to the forte and along its length, secured with three silver-niello inlaid bands. Further silver mounts inlaid with niello to gun areas with some losses, good age patination allover.   middle east, european
