Persian or Southern Caucasian Shamshir sword with Damascus blade

A nice 19th century sword from Northern Persia or Southern Caucasus/Georgia. The hilt in Georgian Khmali style with a steel crossguard inlaid with deep floral petals and a raised beaded border to one side, the reverse side being far plainer and inlaid with geometric designs. The grips of black horn with a steel pommel with gold covering. The blade is most attractive, gently curved and with a visible watered damascus pattern allover, very well-executed fullered panels. The forte with cartouches to both sides containing arabic calligraphy and panels with birds and foliage. The blade tip is sharpened to the back enabling it to be used for stabbing as with the Turkish Kilij sword.  Good condition throughout.  indo-persian
