Double Jian shuangjian with Shagreen and bronze mounts
Antique Chinese Shuang Jian sword. A nice quaility 19th century example of a double set of jian swords in a single scabbard. The blades of flattened diamond section and good robiust steel. The hilts with brass mounts throughout, possibly with gilt remainingm the grip sections of black horn with rounded ribbed fronts and flattened backs. The brass casting of the hilt taotie crosspieces is very well done and the brass retains a lovely deep old patination. The scabbard with various brass mounts deeply cast in reliefe with scrolling and other decoration, one with a ‘chop’ of chinese characters, another with a dragon. The scabbard covered with whitish shagreen ( ray-skin) ande in very good condition throughout, both hanging bands present. far east
