Wonderful Multi-bladed African spear

Description

A most interesting and unique spear from Central/Western Africa most probably the Tiv people of Nigeria/Niger. The head affixed with five! fully functional steel spearblade, four forming a square around a larger central one, these four are attached on extended steel arms decorated with geometric chiselling. The rest of the iron shaft is decorated with rasied bands. The wooden haft most unusually decorated with carved ribbing and incosed bands down to an iron shoe, with a splayed ‘spade’ type terminal.
