Murut Dyak sword Parang Sangkit with silver mounts

Description

A form of Dyak parang sword now known as a ‘Parang Sangkit’, from the Murut peoples of North Borneo/Sarawak. The heavy steel blade single-edged and slightly curved with strong laminations showing a well forged construction. The hilt with chiselled silver mounts and the typical curious pommel carved from a single piece of dark horn. Late 19th century. Southern Asia
