Old Turkish Blunderbuss pistol with fine Damascus barrel
An old Turkish Blunderbuss pistol with a very fine damascus twist or ‘turkish ribbon’ damascus barrel. The wooden stock attractively carved with deep floral scrollwork to the butt, and breech areas. The flintlock mechanism taken from a British military lock dated 1816, and chiselled with a rampant lion. The iron mount to the butt chiselled with a stylised face and other scrollwork, the triggerguard with engraving. The barrel with a flared muzzle typical for most blunderbusses, the damascus barrel chiselled with raised panels to the breech and muzzle and decorated with silver. Good overall condition, old contemporary modifications, some cracking and bumps, all sound and solid, the flintlock mechanism weak but still catching on safety and fire. With a small fabric wad/pad attached with a chain. Circa 1800. middle east
