Lovey old example..! Kaskara sword from Sudan with fine leatherwork

Description

A beautiful and fine quality old 19th century Kaskara sword from Sudan. Good heavy steel fullered blade with moon stamps halfway along the length, the hilt with flaring steel crossguards with some linear engraving. The grip tightly bound with leather showing a lovely worn patination attesting to the age of this piece and the many years handling, small leather disc pommel. The scabbard of fine leather, tooled with designs, and mounted with crocodile skin to the bottom tip, the upper surfaces of the rounded hanging bands, and the very top of the sheath entrance. This sword also retains its original leather sling or strap with extensive tooling in beautiful designs and with applied leather woven decorative tassels ( one detached to one end). This is a very fine old example in wonderful condition, not to be confused with later example which are less refined in quality. Circa 1880. african
