Indian Axe with top spike
Indian Axe with top spike. This old piece is a genuine old fighting piece. As sometimes found, the blade itself is much smaller than standard axes and coupled with the long shaft makes this weapon light and suitable for fast attacks. A further blade attached to the top of the weapon adds to the reach of the axe. As sometimes seen on older weapons the head is attached to the shaft with a central piece of steel which is rivetted down the top part of the shaft, which reinforces the end, and reduces the chance of it being cut off. The shaft is a single piece of dark wood, retaining lovely old patina, and the ball finial shows some faint incised linear decoration. Dating to the 19th century or earlier, this piece is 71 cms long, the blade 8.5 x 6.5 cms, still extremely sharp.
