Antique Persian Kard Knife with Gold Inlay and damascus blade

Description

A beautiful high quality Persian dagger ‘Kard’. Fine steel blade of thick wootz ‘watered’ steel with gold inlay to the forte, bolsters chamfered with thick gold overlay ‘arrows’. The hilt with slabs of marine ivory and the gripstraps decorated with very thick gold decoration having a frieze of animal to the upper section. Complete with its original hide sheath with silk binding to the lower end and a silver chape finely chiselled with leaves and birds. This style of dagger used in Persia and central Asia meant that when sheathed the hilt of the dagger was almost fully covered, it is rare to find kards together with their sheaths and in such good condition.
