Two Betel Nut choppers from Sri lanka or south India
Description
Two old Betel Nut choppers, One probably Singhalese, the other maybe also from Sri Lanka or South Indian. Used to crush the betel nut for chewing which is still popular in South India and has been for hundreds of years. The former with a copper carved birds head with a crest similar to those found on kastane and piha kaetta knives, iron handles with considerable age wear. The second of brass nicely engraved with decorative designs and fine old age wear and patina, iron blade inserted. maybe 17th-19th century.
