19th century Persian Axe with calligraphy and goldwork

 An attractive large 19th century Persian Axe. All steel. The blade of large crescentic form, with surface etched with a watered type pattern, chiselled with panels with calligraphy, and adorned with gold and silver embellishments. The reverse peen with a further panel of chiselled calligraphy. The shaft of steel chiselled alternatively with scrollwork and facets, with traces of silverwork decoration. 74 cms
