Indian tulwar sword with silver decorated hilt

Description

A good example of a an Indian tulwar of fighting type, the steel hilt nicely decorated with applied thick silver in relatively good condition. the knuckle bow nicely shaped and ending with a bent over bud finial, the dished hilt with silver decoration inside and a small ball type finial. The blade is a very good european style curved blade with fullering to increase strength and lightness for its length, and some faint stamps on both sides. the tip is broadened and sharpened along the back edge. The steel is possibly pattern welded as it shows signs of nice folded laminations in places. Some age wear and edge nicks nearer the tip. A good early sword circa 1800.
