19th Century North Indian Tabazin Saddle Axe

Description

 A good quality Antique battle Axe ‘Tabar’ from Northern India. The small wedge shaoed hatchet head made from wootz steel with some light patterning visible, orginally bordered with gold, gold decoration to the recesses, and top and bottom faces. A retaining gilt copper locking finial to the top. The shaft made from gilt copper, chiselled and decorated in three stages and washed with gold, the end having a swinging ring which would have been used for a wrist lanyard. 52 cms long
