East Greenland Inuit Harpoon Throwing board or stick Norsaq

 An old Inuit throwing stick for the harpoon ‘Norsaq’. These aids for hunting were usually simply made from driftwood, and were fitted to the harpoon when not in use, the broader end would be held and with the use of a hook to the side of the harpoon, the stick was used to increase range and speed of the harpoon when kayak hunting.  This example is typical east Greenland shape, and has marine bone loop tip and pegs, and a small sinew repair to one of the holes. The groove along the inner face is to allow good fit to the harpoon when stored. 19th century or earlier, East Greenland.
