Antique 12th Century Fatimid Tiraz fragment of embroidery

 An early fragment of Islamic embroidery from North Africa Fatimid Dynasty. This is a very rare and early piece dated to the early 12th century by experts at the Victoria and Albert Museum, the David Foundation in Copenhagen, and an independent Tiraz specialist in Qatar. A central band of interlaced decoration with panels of small birds between friezes of kufic or pseudo kufic inscription, retaining much of its original bright coloration of pinks, greens and blues. 18 x 26 cms. Framed in a double sided glass mount which allows the fine embroidered detail to be seen clearly. A fragment of near identical embroidery which may be from the same piece of cloth resides in the Bouvier Collection Paris. Egypt/Middle east
