Early Oriental 13th century Tiraz fragment of cloth from the Ayyubid or Mamluk Period

An early Tiraz comprising several fragments of cloth from Islamic North Africa Mamluk or Ayyubid Dynasty. Woven in blue on a natural ground with vertical bands of two stripes, with a central line of silk embroidered inscription translated as ‘To its owner, to its owner…’ and ‘ Glory and Prosperity and Happiness and….’. 39.5 x 5.5 cms, framed in its 19th century mount with various export stickers including one from Paris. A similar piece is in the Bouvier Collection, Paris. 13th/14th century. This piece has been dated and verified by experts at the Victoria and Albert Museum, the David Foundation Copenhagen, and an independent Tiraz specialist in Qatar. Egypt/Middle East/islamic/arabic
