Rare early Zulu Iklwa spear

A very good Zulu spear of size and proportions rarely found. This is a heavier and far broader bladed weapon than normally found, and would suggest an earlier date towards the middle of the 19th century when King Shaka armed his new professional army with short broad bladed heavy spears which describes this piece perfectly. Surviving in excellent condition and brought back by a British soldier in the Dragoon Guard.
