Somalian Dagger Bilao marked to the Italian Corp of Colonial Troops
Description
An interesting East African knife and belt from Somalia. Broad leather belt with pockets and attached belt sheath, the knife with layered horn and brass hilt, iron blade. The leather marked Regio Truppe Corpo Coloniali Somalia, the Royal Corp of Colonial Troops. Somalia was occupied by Italy until 1936, this dagger must date between 1908 and 1936 when the Royal Corp were in existance. The dagger attachments to the belt are almost worn through, and there is wear and some staining to areas of the belt. A very similar dagger and belt is kept at the Imperial War Museum in London, UK, Catalogue number EQU 3951.
