Dayak Iban Kliau shield from Borneo

A nice Iban Dayak war shield Kliau from Borneo dating to the end of the 19th century. Large Body sized shield carved from a single piece of timber, banded with woven cane to stop it being split longitudinally from sword blows. The wood a golden brown colour, subtle decoration to areas, grooved and branded geometric motifs to the front cane and edges, and the grip. A good original example. 1500
