Rare form of Yemeni saif sword with European blade
A very rare form of Yemeni sword Kattara 18th/19th century or earlier. The long steel blade of european origin probably German. The hilt of most unusual design having a leather grip with internal cutout, and long tubular silver stacked pommel. The unusual hilt configuration serves to allow the upper projections from the scabbard fitting directly up into the hilt when sheathed. The scabbard with lovely old age patination, leather with interwoven brass lattice strips, hanging bands retaining leather straps. The tip of the blade with an inlaid brass or gold dot presumably talismanic in nature. The blade when drawn is slightly wobbly perhaps due to the nature of the hilt design. this is a nice example with good age.
