Fine Oman Kattara early form with silver hilt

Description

A good quality Kattara sword from Oman, the hilt unusually covered wholly with silver – the pommel perhaps originally gilt. The crossguard also covered with silver sheet. High quality blade, perhaps of wootz steel. The scabbard retaining its silver decorated hanging bands and decorated with a raised embossed pattern to its front. Slight damage to tip, chape missing.  17th/18th century.
