Persian shamshir sword with fine wootz blade and inlaid gold cartouche

Fine Persian shamshir with high quality Wootz damascus blade, one side inlaid with a cartouche containint arabic script, a further inscription chiselled along the back edge. Two worn panels with gold koftgari halfway down the blade to each side, one depicting a parasol, a symbol relating to royalty. The hilt with ivory grips, the steel crossguard and furniture also of fine wootz steel. The edge of the blade with some nicks and wear, the tip with old repair showing that this sword was well used in action, and deemed worthy of retaining and fixing after gaining battel damage.  Circa 1800.
