Indian Kard dagger with wootz steel blade and ivory hilt dating to the 19th century

A 19th century Indian kard dagger , probably from the north of the subcontinent. This example survives with its original sheath. The blade is of watered steel with a tight pattern visible to the surfaces especially near the forte. The grips are of ivory with steel mounts retaining some of their original gold decoration. The sheath retains its original gilt-copper mounts, locket and chape and the original velvet fabric is still in place albeit with much age wear throughout. The blade also has age wear and sharpening scratches to the cutting edge. A nice complete and authentic indo persian knife of scarce form dating to the early 19th century.
