Heavy Polish or Ottoman Ribbed steel War Mace 16th century
Large and heavy Polish or Ottoman war Mace of steel possibly originally gilt, as used throughout the 16th and 17th centuries, this example being larger and heavier than the budzogan example also listed. The large'onion-shaped' head with miltiple fine ribs surmouned by a rounded bud finial, thick circular steel shaft becoming facetted towards the wooden grip. Long wooden handle with a hole for a strap, wonderful condition and a rare example of a genuine weapon of war rather than a ceremonial or show piece.
