Fine Indo-Persian Pulwouar sword from Afghanistan

Fine Indo-Persian Pulwouar sword from Afghanistan

A very fine example of the Afghan or North Indian 'Pulwar/Pulwouar variation of the Indo-Persian Tulwar sword. The hilt magnificently crafted of steel possibly watered with extremely fine pierced borders and panels of decoration. The hollow steel hilt containing very small stones which are said to have been brought from the Moslem holy city of Mecca. The deeply curved blade of shamshir style with an inlaid cartouche at the forte containing arabic calligraphy, a small talismanic 'bedouh' square containing magical numbers, and a small inscription along the back edge. One of the finest hilts of this type we have seen, in  good condition overall, the blade with some areas of wear. Circa 1800. indo persian afghan damascus middle east
